Communication tactics

There are many communication tactics which can help people with hearing loss. These communication tactics apply to both speaker and listeners. 

1/ select environments with good acoustics for listening to speech: soft furnishings absorb sound better, so the sitting room is better than the kitchen.  Turn off background noise, such as the radio or kettle.  Ask restaurants for a quiet table in a well lit corner away from kitchen noise.  The noise reduction capabilities of hearing aids work best when the background noise is behind not in front of  the hearing aid wearer.

2/ ask your speakers to face you,  to speak slowly and clearly and to be within 6 feet, as this is how hearing aids work best.
